At the same time, you can't just massively buff naval attack on planes, because land based naval bombers, who are too strong right now, will become completely insane. First, due to the large size of sea zones and the necessarily small size of carrier air wings, naval strikes by carriers cause minimal damage, so it is currently unviable. This could be done through carrier planes executing naval bombing missions on an enemy fleet, without a battle taking place, but this poses different issues. The way I see it, the game lacks a proper simulation of naval combat beyond visual range, in-game naval battles are surface engagements after all. It's unrealistic and unbalanced since making any fleet at all is pointless so long as it's in the game but is probably a super easy fix that was already done by modders on some occasions.Ĭlick to expand.I think the stacking penalty has very little to do with this issue. Oh and if someone from PDX actually looks at this post - please make it so you can't put 2000 naval bombers in Midway, there should be a limit or at least a penalty from huge airports on tiny islands. I could go much more in depth on how this should "properly" work but this should be an easy work around to make carriers useful and not just "build 4, throw in your deathstack and forget" Currently if both sides have 4 carriers than it comes down to surface meta who wins, but no more if you implement my suggestion. Currently what reason is there not to deathstack? -10% penalty from positioning that instantly gets countered by your level 5 Fletcher admiral with superior tactician? Please. If you split your navy, you are allowed more carriers. Finally some incentive NOT to deathstack navies. Does anyone in multiplayer ever build more than 4 carriers? Its silly that we make 4 carriers and then max out the fleet on surface vessels like battleship. As in - if taskforce A with 4 carriers, meets taskforce B also with 4 carriers, but then it is reinforced by a second taskforce C, also with 4 carriers, that makes 4v8 carrier battle and is allowed (currently efficiency of combined taskforce B+C will lower carrier traffic to that of roughly 2 because of how punishing this limit is) Make it so that the 4 carriers limit is per taskfroce - not per battle. So I propose a simple fix to make carriers at least a bit more realistic and better. So if you try to play "historical" carrier combat in pacific, you will simply be obliterated by whatever meta is currently good (roach DD, cruiser with light guns, sub spam etc.) whereas you should be able to just bomb a few ships and retreat before those cruisers even see you (see battle of Midway).īut of course making it realistic would be hard, I get it. The crux of the problem is that when 2 navies in hoi4 engage in battle that have carriers, they completely ignore 100+ kilometers of range that this engagement happens, and instead 'spawn' in front of each other in surface fleet range. +500% dmg for carrier planes in battle, max 4 carriers in battle etc. The problem is that the only way that PDX is trying to fix this is by tweaking stats. I don't think that carriers were EVER in healthy state in this game. I love it and that's why it annoys me that there are still things that are super easy to fix (and probably could be fixed by modders but we don't have access to some systems of the game). I've been playing this game since 2017 and have 4000+ hours in it.
